Introduction
Hello,
I’d like to welcome you to my first Newsletter on my new website! I chose SiteGround for hosting and I transferred my domain name to them as well. I previously used Site123 for hosting and website building. I liked their website, it was easy to begin with them, they were a simple, fast and reliable hosting company, but I was shopping around this time and SiteGround had favorable rate plans. I’m a newly self-published author who was launching my ebooks on a strict, non-existent budget.
Another reason I made the switch was that the open-source, website building software WordPress received award, after award, touting them the best and flexible website builder for free. I didn’t choose them the first time around was because it was over-whelming learning the new skills of how to build a website, how to self-edit, ePub format, and upload to Amazon. I educated myself on distribution channels, ISBN’s and ‘going wide’. I decided I was going to self-publish my books and build my website. That is how I spent my time during the Covid-19 quarantine. There was a learning curve here and there. It took me a few days to learn my way around WordPress, but it’s getting easier, the more I use it and I’ve found a few built-in features I really like.
Another way I occupied my time during lockdown was watching TikTok videos like millions of others humans around the world. I was learning about lots of things, some useful, some not, a lot of laughs. It’s an everything app. That’s when I decided I needed to harness this power. I need to take the plunge and begin making content on a consistent basis and watch a following grow.
Story
This year I need to begin my journey as a writer; on a full-time basis. My daughter will be off to college in mid-August and once that happens, I would like to officially set the Fall as my personal re-launch goal. I would like to have my website up and working, I can see improvements already. Another goal this past year, I spent learning about self-publishing, email building, continuing a social media presence. I want to incorporate what I’ve learned these past months into creating content, which creates a following, who will likely to purchase my eBooks.
The positive spin on these added responsibilities are that I still get to be creative, just in a different form; videos. I always feel I have to be ‘video-ready’ every day. As a writer, that was an advantage. Maybe if I show a little bit of both of me will be as genuine as possible.
Until Next Time…
Check back now and again for new updates to the website and find out about new releases or what I am working on. I promise to let you all know how this new adventure turns out. I need to hold myself accountable to these goals and writing it and publishing it.
Oprah was quoted: “I believe luck is preparation meeting opportunity. If you hadn’t been prepared when the opportunity came along, you wouldn’t have been lucky.”
So I’m off to finish getting prepared.
All my best,
Lorri
